Time for Spring Cleanup

Spring is here! The bunny has officially hopped by giving us the last signal we needed to let us know that the season is really and truly underway. So let's get to mowing, planting, and building and… hold off a sec. Have you done your Spring cleanup yet? When seasonal cleanup is concerned, fall cleanup usually gets all the attention because, let's face it, it makes a mess! But winter can leave a mess too, and to enjoy your Spring, we'll need to clean the mess up and make some room. Wondering how we clean up your Huffman yard. As a famous plumber known to hop like a bunny once said, here a-we go! Why Do We Clean Up In Spring? Your land changes every season. Your landscaping needs to keep up! Cleanup is a regular part of landscape maintenance because your plants are always in some growth cycle stage. Unfortunately, that means they're also constantly shedding and/or decaying! But the winter has a way of creating an extra mess. The cold kills extra plants, melting snow and ice may call erosion, and winter storms and frozen snow weigh down and break off branches. So when Spring starts, there's quite a bit to clean up. How Do We Do Spring Cleanup? So now that you know why we clean up, how about how? Spring cleanup includes all the tasks that prepare your landscape that comes next. The top three are flower bed prep, debris collection, and pruning. Lovely flower beds with black mulch Flower Beds Your flower beds may be your favorite part of your yard. But the winter can be extra hard on them. Plants die or get damaged, and mulch washes away.

We'll start by removing plants that didn't survive the winter. Perennials are supposed to come back every year, but sometimes they don't. In addition, any annuals that were alive at the end of fall or bloomed in the winter are probably coming to the end of their lifecycles now.
So we'll remove all those plants to make room for new ones. We'll also replenish your mulch where it needs and cut off any sick parts of plants, bringing us to pruning.
Pruning Your flowers and other plants need pruning. First, we'll take the time to remove any dead or sick parts of all of them. With your flowers, removing dead parts is an ongoing process and is called deadheading. The reason cutting off sick parts matters beyond aesthetics is that it keeps the rest of the plant and the plants around it healthy. It also allows your plants not to waste energy trying to heal something and can instead focus on the thriving parts. Debris Collection While not as dramatic as fall leaf cleanup, plenty of debris remains to collect in the Spring. All those branches and leaves that blew off your trees and got temporarily buried in snow have no place in your yard this Spring! Again, there is an aesthetic reason for this debris removal. The aesthetic one is apparent because no one wants their yard to be covered in plant debris! The health reason you may not be as knowledgeable about. Anything lying on your grass stops that grass from getting the sunlight, water, and nutrients it needs. It can also lead to mold! Consider Some Extras!
